May was a long time ago.
Now that we’re about halfway through the very first off -season of the Big Easy Rollergirls, it’s about time to talk about the bitter ending to a sweet first season.
The night before we welcomed the Memphis Rollergirls to town with a good ole’ fashioned night of drinkin’. I, of course, cut out a bit early, for(dun dun dun) the Molly Ringwalds were playing at Southport this fair evening.
Funny night because this was the first Molly Ringwalds viewing that I was required a chaperon. One of my team mates was sent along, making sure I wasn’t drinking too much the day before a big game. (Thanks, Momma SmasHer!) Guess it’s a good thing that I had stopped drinking hours before anyway.
So here it is, going on very late and still not in bed (usually the night before a bout, I’m in bed by 9pm).
The whole day I was pretty much a wreck. There wasn’t a moment that I didn’t have butterflies… well, except maybe right after I took a late hit and a face plant right into Labayathan. I think at that moment I was about ready to throw a bitch down.
The jibbies immediately returned (accompanied by panic attack from Bruise, an ER trip by Miss Von Doom and a bruised knee from yours truly). The home town girls could keep themselves together and lost by a good bit.
After limping my way to the after party, I made sure to have a strong drink in hand (Kettle on the rocks, can’t get much stronger… unless you chose whiskey I guess) and enjoyed the rest of the evening until well into Sunday morning.
Other “somethings to talk about” this fine night:
Lt. Dan runs away with Bea’s camera
Lionel learns to roll
Window teases at DBA
Cheesy tots at last-last call
Derby wives and derby mistresses
And so ends the first season of the Big Easy Rollergirls. Here’s looking forward to October and beyond. Until then, Beatrix will try to be in hiding, but hasn’t been doing to good of a job thus far.
