Hand Cranked

Yes, another link to something I think is cool that you will probably think is boring. I’m a graphic designer, proficient in the world of print. I love paper and ink and fonts and colors and all that crazy stuff. I have never worked on the press side of it all, but I’ve made enough trips to my vendor and have sent  more jobs than I care to remember to get the idea. At least the machines are electric and you can work at night, probably all thanks to the same man.

Who needs coffee? I’ve got Metal.

I just told my coworkers/cube land buddies that if they hear me start banging my head up against the desk (or slurring incoherent babble) to come take the headphones off of my head and blast some 80’s pop music in my general direction. I’m listening to Slayer…. we’ll see how this works out for me in the end.

Thank you Guitar Hero.

Just in case you care, first on the Artists:Slayer:All: is Flash Storm: Christ Illusion. Not terrible.

mailbox, mailbox, mailbox!

My co-worker sent this to me this morning. I had tears streaming from trying not to laugh too hard in cube land. If I had a decision in the matter, the hero of the day would have been a different font…

tickled funny chord

Yep, it’s one of those Fridays.

Let me set the scene. I’m in a quad-cube pod and I’m the only one here, right? Even across the aisle from me, no one is here. So, I’m reading an ongoing email thread about last minute details for the NOLA Bull Run tomorrow morning, you know… where can I get horns, who else needs a bat, be on time, etc. when I come across this:

I don’t think I know what a whiffle bat is. I have a plastic bat, but when I hit my coworker w/ it she said it really hurts.. So should I get something else?

Ok, so I start laughing… snickering in my cube all by myself and someone comes back from lunch. Without getting into too much detail I try to explain why I’m laughing… and I can’t… because I start laughing harder. I finally manage to sputter something out. This is what’s acting out in my head:

Act one, Scene one

Worker one wanders into worker 2’s work space holds a yellow toy bat. She is examining it with curiosity.

Worker 1: Hey, can I hit you with this bat?
Worker 2: Well, yeah sure, why not? It shouldn’t hurt all that much, it’s just made of plastic!
Worker 1 swings the bat ( I haven’t decided if it’s to the head or leg or what)

THWACK.

Worker 2: Oww.. that hurt.
Worker 1:
Hmmm, something must not be right here.

Both workers sit a minute looking puzzled and then continue on with their day.

I just picture myself walking over to one of my co-workers and out of the blue asking if I can hit them with a bat. It’s funny. It was funny… :-/

Back to work. Weekend’s almost here.

You’re never too old…

I’ve decided that every so often, a good old fashioned temper tantrum is in order. Or maybe well deserved? Alright, fine. I threw a hissy fit yesterday and I really can’t think of a way to justify it. I managed to throw a lot of things around (mostly soft things like bed spreads) and kick everything on the floor (hurting my right big toe) except for the pile of clothes on the bathroom floor. This very same pile later revealed what I was looking for.

I misplaced my badge to get into my work building. Had I not woken up at 5:30 am to ensure that I would get there a little early to catch up on some things, then maybe I would not have been so angry. Stack this on the fact that my house feels like a human pig sty. It’s not filthy. It’s just cluttered, misplaced and thrown about.

I wouldn’t say that I don’t have time to clean it. I just don’t know what to do with all of my crap. My house is not that big. I don’t have THAT much stuff. The only way I think I can feel comfortable is to just get rid of everything. Unfortunately, I’m a pack rat with a neat freak complex.

headphones = awesome

Time and time again, I find myself listening to Queen at work… I guess because it’s fun. Or maybe because I am now surrounded in all directions by people in the formerly empty cube pods, and listening to other people’s conversations is the IRK for me.

If you can imagine me sitting at my desk wanting to desperately grab my coffee mug (microphone) and start dancing around, then you are having fun too!

Here, enjoy with me:

Other work favotrites include Nine Inch Nails, Postal Service, The Elizabethtown Soundtrack, The New Orleans Bingo! Show, Gnarles Barkley, Outkast, a mixture of 80’s junk, Killers… just to name a few. Yeah, just try to pin me by the type of music I listen to.

Good ole’ fashioned productive day

Well, according to work, I’ve logged somewhere around 50 hours between yesterday and today. I seem to have been struggling to keep my mind on real work at my real job. I fixed that today though, logging 7.75 of 8 to real job work and also logging some time from the last couple of days that… well… didn’t get done until today.

Also just spent the last 3 hours workin for free for the Big Easy Rollergirls, managed to squeeze in a 10 min nap after work and ate dinner with Misty.

Now, out of the corner of my eye, I see Will reading, envious of his being 100 or fewer pages from the end of Harry Potter book 7, while I’m not even half way through Book 6. Hmmpf.
